Markets edging higher.
The Dow hit 22,000 last week. This is the Dow’s third 1,000 point milestone of the year. It broke 20,000 January 25th and went through 21,000 on March 1st.1 The S&P 500 inched closer to 2500 when it closed at 2476.83 on Friday. 2 Bitcoin hit a record high of $3,402 on Monday. The cryptocurrency’s value is surging a week after bitcoin split into two. The latest Job report brings good news. U.S. payrolls swelled with 209,000 net new workers in July, according to the Department of Labor. That beat the 183,000 estimate by analysts surveyed by Reuters.4 A meager gain in consumer spending. The 0.1% June advance reported by the Department of Commerce matched the (low) expectations of economists surveyed by MarketWatch. Consumer incomes were flat in June; the same group of forecasters thought they would improve 0.3%.
